Rolex's Dress Watch Legacy

The Only Rolex Built Purely for Elegance

55 Years of Production
From 1968 through 2023, the Cellini was Rolex's home for pure dress watchmaking — the antithesis of the Oyster sports collection. Its 2023 discontinuation transformed every modern reference into a finite collectible.
18ct Gold Only
No steel, no Rolesor. Every modern Cellini from 2014 onward was produced exclusively in 18ct white gold or Everose gold — Rolex's proprietary rose gold alloy — on alligator leather straps with matching gold buckles.
The Moonphase Distinction
The Cellini Moonphase (ref. 50535, 2017–2023) was Rolex's first moonphase complication since the 1950s. Its blue enamel disc and meteorite moon — powered by Cal. 3195 accurate to one day in 122 years — remain without equal in the current Rolex catalog.
Succeeded by the 1908
When Rolex launched the Perpetual 1908 in 2023, the entire Cellini collection was quietly retired. This changing of the guard means modern Cellini references are no longer in production — a condition that historically benefits secondary market values.

What We Buy

Every Cellini, Every Generation

Cellini Time
REF. 50509 — 18CT WHITE GOLD  ·  REF. 50505 — 18CT EVEROSE GOLD  ·  CAL. 3132  ·  2014–2022
The purest expression of the 2014 Cellini — a time-only three-hand watch available with either Roman numerals at the cardinal positions or full index/baton markers, depending on the dial variant. Available in white gold (50509) or Everose (50505), on black or brown alligator strap with matching buckle. Dials offered in white and black; later production added silvered variants. Powered by the chronometer-rated Cal. 3132 with 48-hour power reserve. Both references purchased across all dial variants.
Cellini Date
REF. 50519 — 18CT WHITE GOLD  ·  REF. 50515 — 18CT EVEROSE GOLD  ·  CAL. 3165  ·  2014–2022
The Cellini Date displays the date through a subsidiary dial at 3 o'clock — not a window — a classically-minded solution that distinguishes it from every other Rolex. The dial is decorated in radiating guilloche and available in black, silver, and blue (with coordinating blue strap on white gold). Cal. 3165 powers the date function. The blue dial white gold 50519 is among the most visually distinctive modern Cellini configurations and commands strong secondary interest. Both references purchased across all dial colors.
Cellini Dual Time
REF. 50529 — 18CT WHITE GOLD  ·  REF. 50525 — 18CT EVEROSE GOLD  ·  CAL. 3180  ·  2014–2022
The Dual Time adds a second time zone subdial at 6 o'clock with a day/night indicator — a useful complication executed in the Cellini's understated dress watch idiom. Powered by Cal. 3180. Available in white gold (50529) or Everose (50525), on black or silver guilloche dials. The pairing of a second time zone with the Cellini's refined aesthetic makes it the most practical reference in the modern lineup for the frequent traveler. Both references purchased.
Cellini Moonphase
REF. 50535 — 18CT EVEROSE GOLD ONLY  ·  CAL. 3195  ·  2017–2023
The most technically significant Cellini produced — and Rolex's first moonphase complication since the 1950s. The blue enamel moonphase disc at 6 o'clock displays the moon as a rotating piece of genuine meteorite; a blue hand with a crescent moon tip indicates the date around the dial's periphery. Cal. 3195 is accurate to one day in 122 years. Produced exclusively in 18ct Everose gold with a white lacquer dial, on tobacco-toned alligator strap. Consistently commands the highest resale values in the modern Cellini lineup. All examples purchased.
Vintage Cellini — Prince, Midas & Earlier
CELLINI PRINCE · CELLINI MIDAS · KING MIDAS · CELLINI DANAOS · CELLINI CESTELLO · AND EARLIER
Beyond the 2014 modern collection, the Cellini name spans over five decades of Rolex dress watch history — from the rectangular Art Deco Cellini Prince to the bold asymmetrical Midas, the cushion-shaped Danaos, the ultra-thin Cestello, and countless custom and limited references. Vintage Cellini values vary widely by case shape, metal, condition, and provenance. We evaluate all pre-2014 Cellini references, including unusual and rarely-seen configurations.

Key Terms & Distinctions

CL
The 2014 Redesign
Refs. 50505, 50509, 50515, 50519, 50525, 50529
In 2014 Rolex standardized the entire Cellini line around a unified 39mm round case, double-stepped bezel, flared crown, and leather strap. This gave the collection — which had previously ranged across many shapes and sizes — a coherent identity for the first time. All modern Cellini references descend from this redesign.
MP
Cellini Moonphase
Ref. 50535 — Everose Gold Only, 2017–2023
Rolex's first moonphase in over 60 years, and the final model added to the modern Cellini lineup. The only Cellini that was still in production when the rest of the line was discontinued in 2022 — it remained until 2023. Its meteorite moon disc and blue enamel subdial are unique in the current Rolex canon.
WG
White Gold vs. Everose
50509 / 50519 / 50529 (White Gold)  ·  50505 / 50515 / 50525 (Everose)
Every modern Cellini model was offered in both 18ct white gold and 18ct Everose gold — Rolex's proprietary rose gold alloy. The Moonphase (50535) was the sole exception, available only in Everose. On the secondary market, white gold and Everose examples are evaluated separately, with condition and dial color influencing value significantly within each metal.
DT
Pointer Date Display
Cellini Date & Cellini Moonphase
Both the Cellini Date and Cellini Moonphase use a pointer (or hand) to indicate the date around the periphery of the dial — a traditional dress watch convention that Rolex revived specifically for the Cellini. This approach avoids a date window cutting through the dial, preserving the uninterrupted guilloche or lacquer surface.
DC
2022 Mass Discontinuation
Time, Date & Dual Time discontinued 2022 · Moonphase 2023
At Watches & Wonders 2022, Rolex quietly discontinued the Cellini Time, Date, and Dual Time — leaving only the Moonphase in production. The entire collection was gone by 2023 with the simultaneous introduction of the Perpetual 1908. Discontinuation makes all modern Cellini references finite; no new examples will ever be produced.
PR
Cellini Prince
Refs. 5440, 5441, 5442, 5443 — Re-edition 2005–2015
The rectangular Art Deco Cellini Prince was originally produced in 1928 and revived by Rolex at Baselworld 2005 in four references: ref. 5440 in yellow gold, 5441 in white gold (streamline design), 5442 in Everose gold, and 5443 in white gold. All feature Cal. 7040 manual-wind with a 72-hour power reserve and a sapphire crystal display caseback — one of the very few Rolex models ever made with a transparent caseback. Discontinued 2015. Values depend heavily on condition and originality.
REN
Named for Benvenuto Cellini
Collection name origin, 1968
The Cellini collection takes its name from Benvenuto Cellini, the 16th-century Florentine goldsmith and sculptor whose work defined Renaissance craftsmanship. The name was chosen to signal Rolex's ambitions for a dress watch line built on artisanal precision — a deliberate departure from the tool watch heritage of the Oyster family.

What Determines Value

Dial, Metal & Configuration Guide

Cal. 3132 — Cellini Time
Self-winding, chronometer-certified, 48-hour power reserve. The most straightforward movement in the modern Cellini lineup — time only, no complications beyond a seconds hand. Powers both the white gold 50509 and Everose 50505.
Cal. 3165 — Cellini Date
Self-winding with pointer date function via subdial at 3 o'clock. The non-window date display requires this specialized movement — a deliberate choice to preserve the purity of the guilloche dial without a cyclops or date aperture.
Cal. 3180 — Dual Time
Self-winding with second time zone display at 6 o'clock and day/night indicator. The most practically useful complication in the modern lineup — a second time zone executed with all of the Cellini's characteristic restraint.
Cal. 3195 — Moonphase
Self-winding with moonphase display and pointer date. The 3195 is calibrated to deviate by only one day every 122 years — extraordinary accuracy for a traditionally decorative complication. The most technically distinguished movement in the modern Cellini family.
Dial Palette — Modern Cellini
Time: white, black. Date: black, silver guilloche, blue (with blue strap on white gold). Dual Time: black, silver guilloche. Moonphase: white lacquer only. The blue dial Cellini Date in white gold is the most discussed modern configuration for its visual contrast; the white lacquer Moonphase dial is unique to that reference.
Double-Stepped Bezel
All 2014-onward Cellini watches share a characteristic double-stepped bezel — half-fluted, half-domed — that visually distinguishes the collection from both the Oyster sports watches and earlier Cellini references. A design signature unique to the modern collection.
Alligator Strap & Matching Buckle
All modern Cellini references came on alligator leather straps with a pin buckle in the same metal as the case — white gold buckle on 50509/50519/50529, Everose buckle on all Everose references. Original strap and buckle presence affects value, particularly for the Moonphase at its price point.
Box & Papers
At the Cellini's price point — especially for the Moonphase — original box and papers affect the offer meaningfully. The warranty card and box confirm provenance and support authenticity for buyers at the upper end of the market. We purchase Cellini references with or without documentation, but please note what you have when submitting.

The Glenn Bradford Difference

Nearly Four Decades & Every Configuration

Glenn Bradford Fine Jewelry has been buying and selling fine jewelry and investment-grade timepieces for nearly 40 years. Our Southampton boutique has served the East End for decades, and our New York atelier extends that same standard of care to clients across the city and beyond. Over that time, we have worked with clients at every stage of the watch market — from first-time sellers navigating an unfamiliar process to seasoned collectors managing significant collections — and we bring the same attentiveness and discretion to every conversation.

What distinguishes us is not only our market knowledge but the relationships behind it. We are not a volume liquidator or an anonymous online platform. When you submit a watch to Glenn Bradford, you are dealing directly with people who have spent decades in this business, who know the difference between a watch that should be sold today and one that deserves a more patient approach, and who will tell you the truth about what your piece is worth in the current market — not what you want to hear, and not what benefits us most.

Whether you are selling a single watch or an entire collection, liquidating an estate, or simply curious about the value of something you have owned for years, we are glad to be the first call. Reach us by phone, email, or through the form above.

How It Works

A Simple, Discreet Process

01
Submit Your Watch

Use the form above or contact us directly. For the modern Cellini, the most useful initial details are the model line (Time, Date, Dual Time, or Moonphase), case metal, and dial color. Reference number is helpful where known. Clear photographs of the dial, caseback, and strap buckle are ideal.

02
Receive Our Assessment

We respond within 24 hours with a preliminary offer. For the Moonphase and higher-value Dual Time examples, we may request additional photographs before confirming. Box and papers should be noted at this stage — they influence the offer at the Cellini's price level.

03
Agree on Terms

Once we examine the watch in person or receive it via fully insured shipping, we confirm our final offer. No obligation to proceed at any stage.

04
Receive Payment

Payment is made promptly following final agreement and authentication. Wire transfer, check, or other arrangements available to suit your preference.
